I added 2 new Pre-Released albums to our collection here at UMS.  Ice Cube & Heavy Metal 2000.  The JPG for The Heavy Metal 2000 Soundtrack is of the old cover, I couldn't find the new cover.  So far so good, the links I put up a couple weeks ago are still alive.  Ice Cube is expected to be released on March 21st and the Heavy Metal Soundtrack isn't due in stores until the middle of April.  I just learned Tripod.com offers free CGI hosting, so look forward to some interesting changes.  I'm also considering changing this page to a .ASP, .PHP, or .CFM but I'm undecided.  I'm in the process of writing a Perl script that will let you vote on what albums get uploaded next, I'll keep you posted.

Today with the help of #Rev I was able to obtain pre-released copies of Nsync's soon to be released crap ass album "No Strings Attached".  Also Pantera's near released album is in the process of being uploaded and should be up by the end of the day.  Both albums are due to be released on March 21st 2000.  Look for them in stores.  You can find both these albums on the New Music page, under the mp3 menu.  Thanks to all the hard working peeps in #REV and Dayve.  The men behind the scene's in pre-release really don't get the credit they deserve.  Hats off to all the pre-release crews.

I've gotten a few complaints about the layout of this web page.  The most common complaint:  "What the hell is a .map?".  Well it's simple really.  .MAP is nothing, it is something I made up because most free servers don't allow .MP3's.  And the ones that do only offer 5-10 MB.  That's hardly enough to support a large scale web page.  You can rename all your files manually, associate .MAP with winamp, or DL a renaming program like nameit.  Next thing is "I when I click the mp3 menu nothing pops up.  This problem exist because I used a JavaScript that isn't supported by some versions of Netscape navigator.  The last thing that I've discovered is, a lot of 404 errors.  My only solution to this is click the back button and try again.  The only links I know that are broken belong to the Foo Fighters page, and this is only temporary.

As you can tell, some major updates are happening at UMS.  I just added 8 more FULL albums to our new music list.  I'm still working on the Netscape fix.  I have 180+ full albums on my hard drive, I'm going to set up a search engine that will allow you to look to see if I have your favorite album.  The goal here is to give people what they want.  Unfortunately, I don't have enough web space to host my entire 12 GB MP3 collection.  Based on User Demand will determine what files actually get uploaded.  I will be happy to DCC or FTP you your favorite album, but unfortunately I will require that you have a cable modem or faster.  I simple don't have enough Bandwidth or time to support dial-up users.  Sorry for this inconvenience.  I hope to accommodate all users needs in the future.

We now have a small collection of mp3s on the web.  You can find our newly hosted mp3s by clicking on the Newmusic link on the mp3 menu.  I've secured over 2 gigs of web space, but we'll see how long it take before all the links die.  The domain Unitedmp3service.com is now registered, expect to see it hosted in the next 30 days or so.  Unfortunately Netscape users are unable to browse this site.  The JavaScript I used is peculiar to MSIE.  I did hear that Netscape is working on a new version of JavaScript, so hopefully it supports my script.

I've Added a simple IRC client to the page.  Just click the IRC Client link on the news menu.  It is a pirated copy of jirc (is this surprising?).  A big thank you goes to http://crack.action-online.net for the crack.  I decided it was a good idea to implement this applet because in past experience, most AOL kiddies don't know what IRC is.  This applet makes it incredible easy.

Welcome to UMS!  We are in desperate need of members and resources.  Shells, FTPs are in short supply. We also need dedicated rippers, and uploaders.  We need AOL accounts, AOL servers, and MMers.  Please feel free to apply for any position in person.  Others members can be found in #UMS on EFnet.  I'm working on getting a mail server, and a good hosting service.  When all pieces fall in place, members will enjoy free pop3 email, a small amount of web space (10 MB).  The free web space will primarily be used to host your profile, and all the pics and zips that go with it.  Members will also get access to the members section of this page, which houses FTPs, banks, updated tags, and anything else you might need to make your job easier.  I'm also in the proccess of coding an automated phish manager.  Allowing members to obtain phish with out having to beg in the channel.  If your interested in being part of the UMS team, come and visit us in #UMS on EFnet.  Thank you for supporting new music.
